Randolph Caldecott's Birthday and Award Winners

March 22 is Randolph Caldecott's birthday. The Caldecott Medal was named in his honor and is awarded to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association. Caldecott was a nineteenth-century English illustrator whose illustrations for children's stories were unique to their time.
This year's winners:
-Finding Winnie: They True Story of the World's Most Famous Bear illustrated by Sophie Blackall and written by Lindsay Mattick
-Trombone Shorty illustrated by Bryan Collier and written by Troy Andrews
-Waiting, illustrated and written by Kevin Henkes
-Voice of Freedom: Fannie Lou Hamer, Spirit of the Civil Rights Movement illustrated by -Last Stop on Market Street illustrated by Christian Robinson and written by Matt de le Peña
